A Note on Psychoactive Species
Respecting tradition. Operating within the law. Focusing on the bigger picture.
We understand that many people are drawn to the world of fungi through their rich cultural, spiritual, and medicinal history—including the powerful legacy of psychoactive species like Psilocybe. These mushrooms are deeply woven into Indigenous traditions in Mexico and other parts of the world, and we approach that legacy with reverence, not reduction.
That said, MycoTreks is not a psychedelic tourism company. Our trips are not focused on psychoactive species, and we do not promote or facilitate their collection, possession, or use.
As a tour operator committed to conservation, education, and cross-cultural respect, we must operate fully within the law wherever we go. In Mexico, psilocybin and psilocin are classified as controlled substances, and even simple possession outside of traditional ceremonial use can carry serious legal consequences.
To protect our guests, guides, and the integrity of our mission, we ask that all participants agree to:
Follow all local and national laws regarding mushroom collection and possession
Avoid bringing, collecting, or consuming psychoactive mushrooms while on the trip
Honor the spirit of ethical foraging and cultural sensitivity in all regions we visit
We are not here to police your personal beliefs—we’re here to offer something broader, deeper, and more lasting: a respectful, science-grounded, and relationship-centered exploration of fungal biodiversity and the ecosystems that sustain it.
If you’re curious about the history, science, or cultural context of these mushrooms, we welcome those conversations. We simply ask that they unfold with care, awareness, and in accordance with the laws of the land.
