MycoTreks® Community Guidelines

A shared commitment to respect, legality, and connection—online and in the forest.

Our Mission

At MycoTreks®, we believe that every journey should reflect our core values: respect for each other, responsibility to the land, and reverence for fungi and the communities that steward them. These guidelines apply to all members of the MycoTreks community—Travelers, Guides, Partners, and Team Members—and help us create meaningful, safe, and lawful experiences for everyone involved.

What We Stand For

  • Kindness and empathy in every interaction

  • Inclusion and accessibility for people of all identities and backgrounds

  • Cultural and ecological sensitivity, especially in Indigenous and rural communities

  • Compliance with all local, national, and international laws, including those related to mushroom collection, land access, and foraging

  • Openness to learning, growth, and perspective-taking

  • Stewardship of the ecosystems and relationships that make our trips possible

Your Commitment to the Community

By booking a trip or engaging with MycoTreks online, you agree to uphold these community standards—whether you’re in the forest, in a workshop, on social media, or emailing fellow guests. That includes:

  • Respecting local laws and customs, especially regarding mushroom collection, wildlife protection, and land access

  • Treating everyone with dignity, regardless of race, gender, nationality, religion, age, ability, or identity

  • Respecting the land and those who protect it, including ejidos, Indigenous communities, and local guides

  • Not engaging in harassment, intimidation, or unsafe behavior, in person or online

  • Following the guidance of your Trip Leader and local hosts, especially when navigating unfamiliar regions or sensitive areas

Specific Behaviors We Do Not Tolerate

  • Harassment, hate speech, bullying, or discrimination of any kind

  • Disrespecting landowner agreements, foraging in unauthorized areas, or violating mushroom conservation laws

  • Collecting or using psychoactive mushrooms, or engaging in any illegal activity

  • Sharing private or personally identifying information without consent

  • Posting or resharing images of other travelers without their permission

  • Possessing or promoting weapons, vulgar or aggressive content, or other materials incompatible with the spirit of MycoTreks

  • Unauthorized commercial promotion or solicitation

On Consent & Storytelling

We ask all travelers to seek verbal consent before photographing or filming others, especially locals or fellow guests, and to avoid resharing personal stories shared in trust. Respect is more important than content.

Our Approach to Violations

We believe in accountability with compassion. If a guideline is violated, we’ll seek to understand the full context before taking action. Minor issues may result in a conversation, review, or probation. Severe or repeated violations may lead to removal from the trip and/or community, without refund.

Not a Fit?

If our values don’t align with yours, that’s okay. We know we’re not for everyone. But our commitment is to protect the well-being of our guests, our hosts, and the ecosystems we visit.

Help Keep Our Community Safe

If you witness a violation or feel unsafe during a trip or online interaction, please let us know at mycotrekstours@gmail.com. Reports are confidential, and we may follow up to gather more details if needed.
